Reach for the Stars

Design & Technology

In DT, we used many skills to create pirate theme dioramas.

A diorama is a 3D scene in a box and the children greatly enjoyed this activity!

Firstly, we explored pictures and videos of existing dioramas. Then, we designed our own dioramas by thinking about the materials and tools we would be using.

After that, we created our dioramas. We used our painting and mixing skills to create the sea scene in the background. Then we designed and cut out our waves made from old cereal boxes. We collaged these with different blue shades of tissue paper to create a wave-like effect. We made our boat from coloured card and then attached sliders and leavers to the boat and waves so they would move.

Finally, we added extra details to our dioramas by including clouds, treasure chests and sea creatures.

Having finished our dioramas, we then reflected on our work by evaluating what we had done. The children thought carefully about what had gone well and what they would change next time.

Well done Saturn class!
