Term 4

Being author writers:

Throughout the term we will enjoy reading, learning and re-telling stories. We will develop our skills in these areas:

- writing sentences with capital letters and full stops

- leaving finger spaces between words

- hearing and recording all of the sounds within words

- forming all of our letters correctly and sitting them on the line

- using adjectives to add description to our sentence e.g "I can see a fluffy, white cloud"

- using conjunctions to extend our sentences e.g. " It is raining and I am going to wear my red wellington boots"

Our first text of the term will be a non-fiction text about an imaginary creature called a 'doick'.

Being mathematicians:

As well as continuing to consolidate and expand our number skills we are going to be focusing on place value within 50. This will include:

- counting forwards and backwards using numbers within 50

- ordering numbers within 50

- partitioning numbers within 50 e.g. '36 is made up of 3 tens and 6 ones'

- counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10.

Our enquries:

'Where is my city?'

We will be practising our skills as Geographers through field work which will include a walk around our local area. We will be using aerial photographs to recognise both human and physical landmarks. We will exploring and creating maps to which we will use a simple key to locate and observe features of our locality.

'How could we play in different ways?'

Applying our knowledge and skills as Historians, we will be developing an understanding of how toys and games have changed over time. We will be exploring games played in the Victorian time and comparing these with games from modern times. Children will then have a chance to design and make their own game to play.
