Term 6

Being author writers:

Throughout the term we will enjoy reading, learning and re-telling stories. We will develop our skills in these areas:

- writing sentences with capital letters and full stops

- leaving finger spaces between words

- hearing and recording all of the sounds within words

- forming all of our letters correctly and sitting them on the line

- using adjectives to add description to our sentence e.g "I can see a fluffy, white cloud"

- using conjunctions to extend our sentences e.g. " It is raining and I am going to wear my red wellington boots"

Our first text of the term will be the fiction text 'Giraffes Can't Dance.'

In preparation for the phonics testing mid-June we will be doing lots of phonics practice of real and alien words.

Being mathematicians:

As well as continuing to consolidate and expand our number skills we are going to be focusing on:

- place value within 100.

- time; O'clock, half past and quarter past.

- fractions; halves and quarters of shapes and numbers

- money; recognising coins and their values, finding totals and giving change.

Our enquries:

'What grows in my city'

During this equiry we will have the chance to be scientists and explore how plants grow. We are looking forward to a trip to Arnos Vale and researching a variety of plants and wild life from our local area. We will also be looking at how trees grow. We'll have the chance to taste a selection of fruit and vegetables and take some time to contemplate enviromental issues affecting us. We will then have the chance to work in pairs and design our own seed tray garden.

'What am I?'

With this enquiry we will have yet another chance to be scientists, this time exploring and classifying different animals as omnivores, herbivores and carnivores and how we as humans are also animals. We will learn to describe the structure of a variety of common animals and identify, name, draw and label the basic part of the human and say which part of the body is associated with each sense. We are looking forward to a trip to Bristol Zoo.
