Throughout the term we will enjoy reading, learning and re-telling stories. We will develop our skills in these areas:

  • Writing sentences with capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks
  • Writing stories with a beginning, middle and end
  • Using capital letters for the names of people, places, days of the week and months of the year
  • Joining sentences with ‘and’
  • Letter formation
  • Phonics phase 5
  • Adding –ing, -ed, -er and –est to words

This term we will explore: place value of numbers to 100 (recognising numbers to 100; counting forwards and backwards; finding one more and one less; finding numbers between two two-digit numbers; finding how many tens and ones are in two-digit numbers); money (recognising coins and their values) and time (o'clock and half past).

Afternoons are busy with lots of exciting learning taking place:

In PSHE we are exploring the theme 'changing me' and looking at how we grow and develop.

In History our topic is 'Seaside Rescue'. We will be learning about Grace Darling and the work of the RNLI. We are very excited about our upcoming visit from a member of their team later in the term.

In DT we are designing and making our own lifeboats with an anchor lever.

In computing we are learning how to program a device such as a Bee-Bot to follow a series of instructions.

During the final weeks of the term, we will be preparing for our carnival day by making costumes; learning about the history of Jamaica and some famous Jamaican people; trying Jamaican food and learning Jamaican music.

Throughout the term we will also be preparing for our transition into Year 2 by visiting our new classrooms, meeting our new teacher and having the opportunity to ask questions about next year.
