Admissions

Admissions to the Nursery Class
The school is the admissions authority for the Nursery class. We follow the same admissions criteria as the Local Authority when offering the 60 places and abide by the criteria in the case of over subscription that of:
  1. Children in Care or children who were previously in Care but immediately after being in Care became subject to an adoption, residence, or special guardianship order
  2. Siblings at the infants school
  3. Siblings at the junior school
  4. Children of staff members
  5. Children living closest to the school as measured in a direct line from the home address to the school address
Children are admitted into the Nursery class after their third birthday with the majority starting in the September of that year. Any remaining spaces are filled using the criteria above and for those who are three after 31 August if it is felt that they would benefit from the provision offered. Please contact us on 0117 903 1435 or school@stannesinfants.co.uk

Application forms are available from the school office and decisions are made in April of each year with places being offered on or around 1 May in accordance with Local Authority guidance.

There are 60 places offering 15 hours education a week currently organised as follows:
  • 30 place at the beginning of the week – Monday and Tuesday 9:00 – 3:15 and Wednesday morning 9:00 – 11:30
  • 30 place at the end of the week – Wednesday afternoon 12:30 – 3:15, Thursday and Friday 9:00 – 3:15pm

Admission to the Nursery class does not give priority to admission to Reception.
Admission to Reception
The school is the admissions authority for entry to Reception. However, the School commissions the Local Authority to conduct the bulk admissions process for the September of every year, using the Local Authority admissions criteria to offer the 90 places and manage over subscription. Applications need to be made through the LA web page as below. The criteria applied are as follows:
  1. Children in Care or children who were previously in Care but immediately after being in Care became subject to an adoption, residence, or special guardianship order
  2. Siblings at the infants or the paired junior school
  3. Children living closest to the school as measured in a direct line from the home address to the school address
Applications can be done on line at www.bristol.gov.uk/schooladmissions from September to mid January of each year and the first round of places are offered in mid April, with second round offers in June. Further details can be found on the website or by calling 0117 903 7694 or email school.admission@bristol.gov.uk

There are 90 places in three Reception classes. Children are allocated a class usually in July to start in September. Classes are finalised by the October half term with any changes being made by the start of Term 2. To support our emphasis on personal and social development classes are often re-organised as they move into Year 1 and are mainly kept as a class into Year 2, though this may not always be the case.

The school does not admit children out of their chronological year group.

In-Year Admissions
The school is the admissions authority for in-year admissions and runs the process itself against the criteria above. If a place becomes available the school will contact parents on the waiting list in accordance with the above criteria, or allocate against the criteria if no waiting list exists. The school will allocate a place in an appropriate class depending on the mix of the class and places available. Please contact us on 0117 903 1435 or school@stannesinfants.co.uk

Mixing of Classes
In order to develop and strengthen children’s social and emotional development and to ensure a balance exists within classes and between classes thus supporting effective conditions for learning the school reserves the right to mix classes. This is usually done at the end of Reception year moving into Year 1.

Admission to Junior Provision
Most children progress to Wicklea Academy at the transfer to Year 3. Wicklea Academy is its own admissions authority. Whilst transfer is automatic, if parents so choose, a transfer form is required to be completed indicating parents wish to take the place at Wicklea. Forms will be distributed by the Infants’ school in the January/February term.
