Sally Beard

HLTA - Shooting Stars & Supernovas, Family & Learning Mentor

Hi, I’m Sally Beard, I have worked at St Anne’s Infants since 2004. My 2 boys, Sam and Josh attended St Anne’s as did my husband many, many years ago.  I started my career in catering but once I became a parent and then a volunteer in school I realised that my passion was in education. I left my job and went to train as nursery nurse, qualifying in the year 2000. After a couple of years working in another school I found my way back to the place where my heart has always been.  I first worked in the Reception classes, which I loved. I then gained my HLTA and forest school qualification and gradually my role changed. I now work as our family and learning mentor, which ticks all of my boxes. My time in Shooting stars and Supernovas is busy, varied and at times hilarious. The children make me smile every day, well most days! I now have the privilege of working with our wonderful families, they inspire me with their positivity, openness and resilience.   Weekends and holidays are enjoyed by spending time in my caravan in Devon, where I love to walk, read and spend time on the beach, I have even been known to challenge myself on the paddleboard or wakeboard, look out for me if you’re in the area!

Jo Sowerbutts

Teacher - Shooting Stars & Reading Specialist

Hello! I am Jo Sowerbutts and am part of the Inclusion team here at St Anne’s. I joined the school in 2012, covering class teachers across the school and then trained as Reading Recovery teacher in 2013 so specialize in supporting children to become independent readers, a role which I love. Having completed a degree in French (a long time ago) I lived for 5 years in France, teaching English and then returned to Bristol to train as an Early Years teacher. I have taught Early Years and Key Stage One in various schools in Bristol and Padua in Italy. I worked as a Consultant for South Gloucestershire Local Authority, leading the development of Primary Languages but after 6 years, missed being part of a school community and working more directly with children. I love working with the children, parents and my colleagues at St Anne’s. Half of my time is now spent in Shooting Stars where I have the privilege of working with a fabulous group of children and colleagues.

I have 3 children – Nellie, Felix and Leo a husband and a dog called Barney. To relax I cook, sing in a choir and read.

Beth Wright

Shooting Stars Lead

Hi, I'm Beth Wright and I work in Shooting Stars. I gained my teaching degree in 2014 and  worked in Hampshire as a teacher and year group leader in a primary school for 5 years. Then I had my little boy, Henry, so moved back to the Bristol area where my family are from and found an exciting opportunity to join the St Annes family as part of the inclusion team! I love playing football and in my spare time you'll either find me at the swimming pool with Henry or playing in the park!

Emma Hill

LSA - Supernovas

Hi, I’m Emma Hill and I worked at St Anne’s in 2017 and recently returned to join the Inclusion team. I work with Mrs Beard in Supernovas in the afternoons, support children in class and teach once a week across the school. I am so pleased to be able to join the wonderful community at St Anne’s again and support the social, emotional and academic needs of our children. I have a particular interest in children’s mental health and wellbeing and am currently undertaking a master’s degree in Educational Psychology. When not working or studying, I enjoy getting creative by making jewellery, drawing and baking. I love animals and nature; I can often be found spending time with my cats or exploring the outdoors with my partner.

Jo Harvey

LSA - Year 1

Hi I’m Mrs Harvey, I’ve worked at St Anne's since 2011 in all year groups across the school as well as at lunchtimes. In my spare time I like to go on bike rides with my husband and three boys where we usually stop stop for a picnic or a pub lunch! We enjoy watching superhero movies and going to the beach. I also love to do a bit of gardening

Lindsay Drew

LSA - Year 1

Hi, I’m Ms Drew. I first started working at St Anne’s as a volunteer in Year 1 when my son started in the nursery. I enjoyed it so much that I trained as a Better Reading Partner, joined the lunchtime team and have been completing my LSA qualification. Before having my son, I worked in administration while also volunteering as an Education Assistant at a local museum and a helper at Rainbows. In my spare time, I enjoy yoga, reading, going on adventures with my family and finding out interesting animal facts with my animal-enthusiast son!

Becca Reid

LSA - Year 1

At 18, after finishing my A Levels I left home to travel and work around Australia on my own for 12 months.  Afterwards, I returned to my love of theatre and went to study at the Dartington College of Arts in Totnes where I met my husband.  He too loved to travel so once he’d completed his degree we travelled to America, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and India.  We then moved to Bristol in 2005 and I went to work as a Probation Service Officer within a drug management team.  Although I loved my job, we worked hard so I could stay at home with our two young children and once they started at St. Anne’s I soon began volunteering to listen to children read, helping on school trips and then applying to become an SMSA.  I was fortunate to spend 18 months working within the school’s Nursery and now I love working in the school’s fantastic Inclusion team.

Leanne Morris

LSA - Year 1 and Year 2

I have been working with children since 2009 with a two year break in between where I  supported the wellbeing of older people. I have a particular interest in supporting the learning of children with special education needs. One of my proudest achievements so far was graduating from university in 2014 as a mature student with a BA Hons degree in Education. Some other facts about me include; I live with my fiance, my daughter and our dog Woody. I have visited Egypt to see the Sphinx and the pyramids of Giza. I have also been to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. One of my all time favourite childhood films is Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. I enjoy learning new things and have trained in several holistic therapies. I love walking in nature, going to the beach, chocolate, semi-precious gemstones, so much so that I have 49 different stones and I recently started a new hobby making gemstone bracelets.

Abi Brown

LSA - Key Stage 1

Hi, I'm Miss Brown, after teaching for 5 years in Special Education and mainstream schools I worked for a civil engineering company for 10 years in Health and safety, streetworks and NVQ training initiatives, during which time I had 2 children.  When my eldest daughter started at St Anne's Infants School in 2015, it became the signal for me to return to my first love of working with children. Initially I was a class based LSA in Year 1 and 2 and now love being part of the inclusion team at St Annes. When I have free time I mostly spend it outdoors with my family and friends in the woods or by the sea!
