Reach for the Stars

Term 4

Welcome back, we hope you had a restful break!

We are looking forward to term 4 and all the fun that it will bring. We are very excited for World Book Day during the first week back and can’t wait to immerse ourselves into a fun filled day of reading.

Enquiry Learning

We look forward to launching our new enquiry ‘Who Helps Who?’ where we will focus on being Historians. During this enquiry we will meet a nurse. The children will be using their skills as a philosopher here to think deeply and ask questions. As the enquiry progresses we will be exploring Princess Cambell and looking into similiarities and differences between a nurses role now compared to the past.

Our second enquiry will be ‘Where is my School?’ where we will focus on being Geographers.

As author writers we continue to practise writing sentences with a capital letter, finger spaces and full stop. We will be exploring the text ‘Nurse Clementine’ by Simon James. This will help us to learn how to develop our knowledge of using question marks and learnig how to write questions. We will also be learning how to use the conjunction ‘and’ to join simple sentences forming compound sentences. Our writing challenge is to write a fact file of a significant person from the past. We will use our writing knowledge and skills along with our knowledge as historians to write a fact file on Princess Cambell.

As mathematicians we will finish our addition and subtraction unit (within 20) before moving on to place value up to 50! During the last two weeks of term we will focus of measurements and will be exploring length, weight, height and volume.

Common Exception Words

Please use your highlighted paper copy of CEW to ensure that the children are able to read and write all the CEW.

We move onto the Healthy Me jigsaw piece. The children will learn about mental wellbeing as well as physical wellbeing. We will learn how to make healthy choices as well as keep safe with household products. We will also be exploring medicine safety as well as road safety while thinking deeply as a philosopher.

The children now have 2 sessions weekly and will start dance lessons whilst continuing with personal and social skills through REAL PE.

We are consolidating the digraphs and trigraphs within phase 3 of our school phonics plan. The sounds we are learning are.
