Term 4

We have another exciting term to look forward to in Nursery, beginning with a visit to a cottage in the woods that is occupied by 3 bears and which has been visited recently by a girl named Goldilocks.  We will then continue with the theme of bears and go on a journey through some swishy, swashy grass, thick oozy mud and other interesting places to try to find a bear of our own.  By  learning shortened versions of both 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and adding our own actions to them we will continue to develop a passion for story telling whilst enhancing our understanding of the characters, settings and main events in the stories.

Through the learning environment, we will provide the children with lots of opportunities to enhance their knowledge and understanding number, especially focussing on numbers up to 10.  We continue to practise counting accurately, matching numerals and quantities, finding ways to represent numbers and finding ways to solve number problems.  We will also be using our environment to explore shapes and we'll continue to build upon our vocabulary to describe the shapes of the objects we find around us.

As in previous terms, we will use our whole school teaching programme to build upon our personal, social, emotional development.  Through our Jigsaw scheme of work, we will focus on the theme 'Healthy Me'.

In Term 3 we began to learn about some letters and the sounds they make by introducing 1 sound per week.  So far we have learnt about /s/ /a/ /t/ and /p/.    We will be exploring new sounds again this term by playing games with sounds, especially focusing on matching objects to their initial sounds.  We will be adventurous and use our mark making skills to try and make marks to represent the sounds we are learning.

It has been wonderful to see the children's curiosity and thirst for learning continue to develop and evolve and as a result they have been achieving new things.  As the children have been achieving their personal challenges, we have been excited to be able to share their new next steps with you at parent's evening and via Tapestry.  Don't forget that it would be great if you could use Tapestry to share any progress you see your child making towards these challenges at home.

As always, thank you for your continued support, the Nursery team.
