Weekly update - Term 3, week 1

Essential information for the week and term ahead

Whole School Messages

Census Day - Thursday 15th January

Census day is coming up this week! As a lot of parents already know, the more children that eat a school dinner on this day, the more funding the school will receive. We are going to be doing an extra 'Fish Finger Thursday' with Fish Fingers, Quorn Nuggets, Baguettes, Jacket Potatoes and Tomato Pasta on the menu. We would love for every child to have a school dinner on this day! Anyone that hasn't ordered please speak to Miss Knapton, who can do this for you. For those children regularly eating packed lunch, if they would like to try a dinner and bring a lunch as a backup, they are more than welcome to do so!

School Nurse drop-in - Monday 12th January @ Wicklea Academy

School nurse drop ins are now held in the community room at Wicklea Academy from 9.45 to 11.45am.

All parents and carers are welcome and there is no need to book. You will be able to have an informal discussion about your child's health and well-being.

Topics for discussion include:

Emotional health

Healthy eating

Healthy relationships

Physical health concerns

Sleep

Continence

If you would like any further information about this session, please speak to Mrs Owen (Pastoral Lead).

Height and weight checks for Reception aged children

Please view the attached letter & leaflet regarding height and weight checks for reception children.

Eco-team

We are excited to inform you that, next week, Mr Soper will be re-launching the St Anne's Eco-team and we are looking for budding environmentalists to join!

Mr Soper will be leading an assembly on Monday to explain what the eco-team is and the kinds of things it will be involved in. Later in the week, children who are interested in being part of the team will have the opportunity to share why they want to be involved with their class and there will then be a class vote.

Talk to your child this weekend about whether they would like to put themselves forward for nomination and support them in putting together a few words to explain why. Each class will have two representatives, with the second member of the team being invited by Mr Soper.

Happy New Year from the Nursery Team!

  • Reception/primary school applications - The Bristol City Council deadline for applying for a Reception place for your child is 15th January 2026. We wonder how you are placed with your application please? Please let the Nursery Team know if we can be of any assistance. We can offer full support.
  • Clothes donations - Nursery would welcome any donations of leggings, especially those to fit aged 3-4 years.
Reception
  • On Tuesday 13th at 4.30pm, Reception children and parents are invited to join us on a night walk as we begin our enquiry 'What is darkness'? We will start our walk at the classroom and children will all be provided with high visibility jackets, but you are also welcome to bring along torches or other reflective items. The walk will last approximately 30 minutes and then we will return to the class for some hot chocolate and chat. Siblings are welcome to join.

  • On Friday 16th at 9.00 - 9.30 am, Miss Robertson will be hosting another phonics information meeting for Reception parents. The focus will be on what the children will be learning in phonics over the next two terms, how this is applied to reading and writing, and how to support with reading at home, with an opportunity to ask questions.

Year 1
  • This week in our learning we are going to be exploring equal and unequal numbers in maths. In writing we are going to be consolidating our capital letters, using the story The Three Little Pigs. We are going to continue looking at our enquiry 'Where is my School?', looking at maps and symbols on maps. To support children with their learning next week, there will be an extra sheet on the phonics homework with Capital Letters. Please use this to boost their confidence with identifying and writing capital letters.
  • We are also still looking for volunteers for our local walks. Neptune - Thursday 15th January and Venus Friday 16th January. Please contact your class email address (neptune@stannesinfants.co.uk or venus@stannesinfants.co.uk) to let your child's teacher know that you can come along. We will leave at 09:30 and return by 12:00 for lunch.
  • On Tuesday 27th January, 'Scales and Tails' will be visiting the school along with some animals. We will send further details around plans for this next week along with any amount of parental contribution required.
Year 2
Other info
  • A parent has emailed to let us know that Noah's Ark Zoo Farm is offering a free child ticket with a paying adult ticket, for all the budding zoologists we have at the school.
