Weekly update - Term 3, week 4

Essential parent information for the weeks and months ahead.

Number Day
  • We are delighted to be supporting the NSPCC by taking part in Number Day on Friday 6th February.

  • As well as taking part in some great maths problem solving throughout the day, the children are invited to come to school dressed in the colours of their favourite Numberblock. For example 1 - red, 2 - orange, 3 - yellow, 4 - green, 5 - blue, 6 - purple or even rainbow colours for number 7!

Builder's Toys

The Reception team are seeking donations of builders toys that your children may have outgrown. Playing pretend builders is a popular part of the children's play, so over time our toy tools have worn out. If you have any plastic toy builders' tools that you are able to donate, they would be gratefully received by the Reception staff and children!

Reminder: U16s Social Media

If you would like to write to your MP and voice your support for a social media ban for under 16s, you can use this link and the website will write the letter for you: https://smartphonefreechildhood.eaction.org.uk/raise-the-age .

Lunch boxes

Could we please ask that parents refrain from putting an excessive amount of chocolate/sweet things in lunch boxes as this is against school policy.

More information on 'food and drink' can be found here: St Anne's Infant School - Food and drink .

Cloakroom etiquette & water bottles

Please can we ask that parents drop their children at the door and do not accompany them into the cloakroom on a morning as there is insufficient space for them to do so. Most children are independent enough to make their way in and hang up their coat and book bag.

Can we also request that water bottles are not put into book bags when making the journey in, to avoid water damage to a limited supply of reading books.

Reminder - Calling for a Book Amnesty!

We are hoping you can help us with a little book hunt to make sure all our children can continue to enjoy reading at school.

Phonics Books
We are currently running very low on our Phonics reading books at Levels 5, 6 and 7. This means some children are needing to re-read familiar books or choose books that aren’t quite right for their reading level.
Please could you have a quick look around your homes, cars, and school bags to see if any phonics books have found a cosy spot there and bring them back into school when you can.

Library Books
At the moment, we have 293 overdue library books. We would be so grateful if you could check at home for any library books so we can reduce this number and refresh the range of exciting book genres available.
We absolutely love seeing children reading for pleasure and would love an equally full library for everyone to enjoy!

Children visit the library and change their reading books weekly, so please help them remember to have their books in their bags on their allotted library day.

To make things extra easy, next week there will be two boxes by the school gate:

  • One for Phonics books
  • One for Library books

We know books have a habit of hiding, and we’re just very thankful to welcome them back home.

Year Group Messages

Nursery
  • Class Reward - Sun Class filled their Star Jar and enjoyed a Julia Donaldson treat. Why not take a peek at the Tapestry photos of these events?

  • Pre-loved donations - Sun Class would welcome donations of leggings/trousers in sizes age 3-4 and age 4-5.

  • Phonics - Next week, we will focus on letter 'a'. We'll clue ourselves into the sound letter 'a' makes in words by saying the alliterative phrase 'Alphie asks for apples'. When forming the letter, we'll use the cue 'Left around, right around, from head to tail'.
