Weekly update - End of Term 3

Happy holidays! - Please read carefully for relevant information for our return to school on Monday 23rd February.

Absence notifications

Can parents please complete this form for any pre-emptive leave of absence requests (such as holidays): SAI - Leave of absence form (term time) . We will ONLY process leave of absence requests received via this form.

Please do not submit leave of absence requests on MCAS, as these will be automatically declined. MCAS is for reporting sickness/medical appointment absences only, as is email and the school landline.

Items in book bags

Please can you check book bags before your child comes into school to make sure their books bags do not contain stationary items, toys, fidget toys, lego etc as this is causing some friendship dramas inside and outside the classroom.

World Book Day - 5th March

To celebrate World Book Day our theme this year will be Traditional Tales — the stories we love, the stories we grew up with, and the stories shared across different cultures around the world.

On Thursday 5th March, children are invited to come to school dressed as a character from a traditional tale or as their favourite book character. Simple, comfortable costumes that are appropriate for a whole day at school including playtimes, are encouraged; we want this to be enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

There will also be a special food menu for the day, available to order on MCAS.

As part of the celebration, we would also love to welcome parents and carers into school to read a favourite traditional story to their child’s class. Tales from around the world would be especially wonderful, helping the children experience the richness and diversity of storytelling across different cultures.

If you would like to come in and read to the class, please let your child’s teacher know so we can arrange a suitable time during the day.

We are looking forward to a magical World Book Day filled with imagination, stories and shared joy; more information to follow.

Warm regards,

Rae Fillingham and Zoe Pope

Year Group Messages

Nursery
  • World Book Day

Sun Class will celebrate World Book Day on Wednesday 4th March. The theme will be fairytales. Why not take inspiration from your favourite fairytale and dress up as one of its characters?

  • Pre-loved socks

Sun Class would welcome donations of matching or odd socks please.

  • Phonics

Next week, we will focus on letter 'p'. We'll cue ourselves into the sound letter 'p' makes by saying the alliterative phrase 'Peek at the proud parrot'. When forming the letter, we'll use the cue 'From head to tail then right around the parrot'.

Reception
  • Next term the Reception children will have PE on Wednesday. Please send children in to school in their PE kit on this day.

  • Thank you to those parents who have already volunteered to join their child's class at Forest School sessions next term. Mars class still need at least one parent helper for the following dates: 6th March, 12th March, 20th March, 27th March and 2nd April and Earth class need another on all of the March dates, so please let us know if you are able to help by filling this form in: Volunteer at Forest School in 2026 .

  • For those parents yet to make a contribution towards Forest School, please do so on the MCAS store - the full programme cost is £30 per child, with parents able to split the payments into instalments if needed.

  • Usports are continuing the sports club for reception children in Term 4. A leaflet with instructions on how to sign up is attached - there are only 12 spaces, so please do book for your child as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Year 1
  • The second week back we are going to star the next enquiry 'Who Helps Who?'. We would love it if you could send in a photo of you at work/ in uniform and a brief summary of your job role. We are also looking for some volunteers to come in and speak to the children about their jobs to inspire them and make comparisons to the past, please could you email Ms Watkins or Ms Pope if you are interested or would like some more information.
  • Phonics homework will now include a second page, this is the Phonics screener mark sheet and will include a QR code to access the resources online. In class we have started to practice section 1, and will move onto section 2 just before the Easter Holidays. Any practice is really beneficial to support them in preparation for the phonics screener. Feel free to get creative and not have your child sat down as though it is a test. Any questions, support or ideas, you're welcome to contact Ms Watkins or Ms Pope.
  • Thank you for the Pop up books, we will return after the half term as we are still going to be using them to design our own books.
Year 2
  • Year 2 plan on visiting the SS Great Britain on Wednesday 25th March. Details, including payment amounts and volunteers will be sent out at the beginning of term 4, but we wanted to provide enough leeway for parents to book time off to volunteer.
