Reading: Please read with your child as often as possible, ideally 3 times a week. Reading books are changed by the children once they have read through them twice. The children should take their books home at the end of every day. Children move up the reading levels once appropriate assessments have been carried out by their teachers.
The children also have a reading record. A small blue book where teachers and parents can make notes. It would be helpful if you could write a brief comment (this could simply be the date and title of the book) when you have heard your child read so we know they have read with you.
Your child will also bring a Shared Reading book home. These books are different to reading books and are a part of our group reading lessons where we read and discuss books together. Parents are encouraged to do the same at home.
Common exception words: Common Exception Words (red words) are words that often cannot be decoded and can be a challenge for children to read and write. Below are some Year 1 and Year 2 examples which you can use to practice with your child.
