A message from Mrs Sutherland - States of Being Day - Thursday 17th September

To celebrate the end of our Building Relationships weeks in Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2), we will be holding a States of Being day on Thursday 17th September. Children are invited to come dressed as a state of being that enjoy or would like to be when they are older. Costumes do not need cost any money or be flamboyant e.g. if your child loves writing, they could simply bring a notebook and pen!

On Friday 18th September, there are two events for parents.

At 1.45pm Mrs Sutherland will be running a workshop / drop-in for parents where she will share information about the Zones of Regulation and strategies to support behaviour in school and at home. This will be an introductory session and an opportunity for you to ask questions or share concerns to help inform future events that may be held. If you want to gain an understanding of how to develop your child’s emotional intelligence or support their emotional regulation, please do come along. In order to know how many people to expect please confirm your attendance by emailing help@stannesinfants.co.uk; if you wish to share any concerns about your child’s behaviour, please feel free to include them. 

Whilst this has previously been communicated with Key Stage 1 parents, any parent is welcome to attend.  

At 2.30pm Year 1 and 2 parents are invited to come in to spend time with their child in their new classroom. A range of activities will be set up for you to choose from, you will be able to look a some of the exercise and floor books from last year to get an idea of what your child will be learning and of course, it is an opportunity to chat to other parents and your child’s new teacher. No sign up required, just turn up!

South Building Renovations

Parents will have noticed the scaffolding going up and contractors working in and around the school's South Building. This is the beginning of extensive renovatoin works on the South Building, as part of an exciting project being developed by St Anne's in conjunction with Bristol City Council (with more information being made available to parents in the coming months).

During this time, there will be times that the footpath outside the side gate on Bloomfield Road will be inaccessible due to the access requirements of contractors. Please can we ask that parents walk past this area on the opposite side of Bloomfield Road to the gate and then use our crossing patrol to safely traverse the road at the crossroads. 

Beyond this, it will be business as usual as the South Building and Surrounds is completely sealed off from the rest of the school and will not impact from a safeguarding or health and safety perspective.

Nut Free Policy

Parents are reminded that St Anne's is a nut free school. No nuts are served on our school lunches and we remind parents not to send nut products in, in their child's packed lunch. This matter is made all the more relevant by children on roll that have nut and peanut allergies and new government legislation, requiring the staff to undergo training in the use of adrenaline auto-injectors.

E-Scooters

There have been several instances of children being brought to school as passengers on unregulated e-scooters (notably if they are being dropped off by some older, teenage sibling).

The school would point out that use of these devices is against the law and jeopardises the safety of those children both riding as passengers and operating the scooter.

Playground Safety at drop off and pick up

Parents are reminded to use the one way system to avoid collisions and blocking of exits. Parents are also responsible for ensuring that their children do not use play equipment and do not ride bikes and scooters until they are outside the school gates for safety reasons.

MCAS Access: Our admin team are working through the registration forms provided by new reception parents and aim to add all additional contacts to pupil's data in the next week or so. Once complete we will send MCAS invites out to second parents. Please can we ask that you do not contact the school regarding additional MCAS accounts unless you have not received the setup email by Monday 21st September. 

Year 1 Messages

Monday 14th September - Dot Day! To celebrate the start of our new enquiry, 'What do artists do?' we invite Year 1 to come into school dressed in spots and dots! Please do not feel the need to buy anything, use what you have and get creative! Stickers, face paint etc.

Friday 2nd October- Art Exhibition. To celebrate the end of our enquiry we would love to share our artwork with you so we are inviting parents in at 9:15am for an art showcase!

As part of building relationships we would also love to see some photos of our Year 1's as babies and family pictures, these can be the same that were used in Reception last year. Please email photos to your child's class teacher - venus@stannesinfants.co.uk, neptune@stannesinfants.co.uk. 

Year 1 PE days will be Tuesday and Thursday, please send your child to school in their PE kits on these days.

We will also be visiting the school library on Thursdays, please return library books on this day to ensure they can be swapped over.

Year 1 will be participating in a workshop with local artist Annie Clay, from Colourful Minds. In order to pay for this event, we are asking for a contribution of £2.40 from each family, which can be made on MCAS.
