Weekly update from St Anne's Infants' School

    Great Athletes Event

We are really looking forward to Katrina Hart joining us to talk to and inspire the children later in the term. We have received a few concerns about the fundraising element, and individual prizes being linked to the amount of money being raised. The aim of engaging in the event is to encourage the children to lead active and healthy lives and demonstrate perseverance and resilience. The sponsorship element is part of the criteria for the event and will hopefully raise enough funds for the school to be able to purchase some new sports equipment but there is no expectation for all children and families to raise sponsorship. We understand that this will result in some children not receiving individual prizes which could lead to upset. We have fed this back to the programme organisers at Great Athletes and suggested that they consider class prizes in the future. This time around, staff will consider how prizes can be given out sensitively.

The letter with QR code to sponsor online is attached to the bottom of the page - no cash for this event please.

    Mother's Day Breakfast

Each year, the school invites the special female figures in our children's lives onto site a little early, to enjoy a bacon or mushroom (v) roll. This year we will run the event on Thursday 12th March, from 8.20am. The event will then end when gates close at 8.40am, with children expected to be in class by the time the gates close at 8.50am.

The Friends of St Anne's will be volunteering to serve breakfast in the playground - we thank them for giving more of their time to facilitate a fantastic annual event.

    Uniform Policy Reminder

A number of boys have been wearing long necklaces to school this week. Not only do these present as a health and safety risk, they could also get caught on something and break. The uniform policy states that no jewellery other than stud earrings should be worn. Staff will ask children to remove any other jewellery and return it to parents at the end of the day from next week.

Reminder: World Book Day - 5th March

To celebrate World Book Day our theme this year will be Traditional Tales — the stories we love, the stories we grew up with, and the stories shared across different cultures around the world.

On Thursday 5th March, children are invited to come to school dressed as a character from a traditional tale or as their favourite book character. Simple, comfortable costumes that are appropriate for a whole day at school including playtimes, are encouraged; we want this to be enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

There will also be a special food menu for the day, available to order on MCAS.

As part of the celebration, we would also love to welcome parents and carers into school to read a favourite traditional story to their child’s class. Tales from around the world would be especially wonderful, helping the children experience the richness and diversity of storytelling across different cultures.

If you would like to come in and read to the class, please let your child’s teacher know so we can arrange a suitable time during the day.

We are looking forward to a magical World Book Day filled with imagination, stories and shared joy; more information to follow.

    Warm regards,

    Rae Fillingham and Zoe Pope

    Nursery
    • Sun Class will celebrate World Book Day next Wednesday, 4th March.

The theme will be fairytales. Nursery children, why not take inspiration from your favourite fairytale/story and                dress up as one of its characters. Nursery parents/carers, do you have a much-loved story you could share with            individual nursery children/ pairs or small groups of children on Wednesday 4th March? This could be a story                you read aloud or one you tell from memory/ with puppets. It could be in your home language/the English language.

    • Pre-loved wellies

Sun Class would welcome donations of pairs of wellies in sizes 8 through 12. Many thanks

    • Phonics

Next week, we will focus on letter 'i'. We'll cue ourselves into the sound letter 'i' makes by saying the alliterative              phrase 'Imagine itchy insects'. When forming the letter, we'll use the cue 'Down the insect, lift and dot'.

We continue to rehearse the 'Alphabet Chant'.

    Reception
    • We hope the children enjoyed their first Forest School sessions today.
    • Please remember to make sure that your Forest School payments are made on MCAS, to ensure we can run all of the sessions. If paying by instalments, please do pay this on time where possible.
    Year 1
    • We have had so much fun designing and creating our own moving part books based on animals! Next week we are going to start writing our animal facts to add to our books.
    • Thank you to those that have emailed about their job role for our next enquiry, 'Who Helps Who?'. We would love it if you could send in a photo of you at work/ in uniform and a brief summary of your job role. We are also looking for some volunteers to come in and speak to the children about their jobs to inspire them and make comparisons to the past, please could you email Ms Watkins or Ms Pope if you are interested or would like some more information.
    • Phonics homework now includes a second page, this is the Phonics screener mark sheet and will include a QR code to access the resources online. Any practice is really beneficial to support them in preparation for the phonics screener. Feel free to get creative and not have your child sat down as though it is a test. Please note, we are currently only focusing on Section 1 and will be moving to Section 2 at Easter when we have learned the relevant sounds. Any questions, support or ideas, you're welcome to contact Ms Watkins or Ms Pope.
    Year 2
    • Year 2 will be visiting the SS Great Britain on Wednesday 25th March, leaving at 9.15 and returning before the end of the school day.
    • Please select from home packed lunch OR school packed lunch on MCAS no later than March 10th.
    • We are waiting for confirmation of coach costs, but the contribution looks likely to be around £19-£20 per child. Once confirmed, we will add the payment onto MCAS for parents to contribute.
    • We are also looking for volunteers - if you're able to help on this trip please complete the form here: https://form.jotform.com/260573917312356 .
