Weekly update - Term 1, Week 1

Weekly parent update. Term 1, Week 1 - 5th September 2025

Welcome to the first weekly comms of the 25/26 academic year at St Anne’s Infants. A message such as this (hopefully not quite as long) will go out each week to parents, usually on a Friday. This is to keep the number of individual communications that go out to families to a minimum. Please can we ask all parents to read carefully, and take action where necessary.

Message from Mrs Sutherland

It has been wonderful to welcome the children to school this week. At St Anne's, we do something quite unique in that we spend the first two weeks of term focussing on Building Relationships. It gives the children a soft start into school and gives the teachers precious time to get to know the children and develop their understanding of the school rules and values through fun games and activities. Curriculum learning will begin on Monday 15th September.

Whole school

MCAS has suffered several server outages this week due to the sheer volume of schools and families using it, therefore if you notice problems with your parent app, it will likely pass and will not require any further action from you.

With the weather being extremely changeable, please ensure that you are sending your child in with a waterproof coat.

All clothes/coats/bags/water bottles should have a name written or stuck in/on them to avoid being lost.

Can parents/carers please review your personal information on MCAS (data collection form – changes will not show until approved by the school), which also includes allergy and medical info. Can we also ask parents to visit the ‘parental consents’ section on your MCAS app to ensure that they are up to date.

Please note that in the event of us not receiving any consent information, we will assume that it has been granted until we hear otherwise. If you have previously granted a consent but wish to revoke it, then you will need to contact the school office to do so. An explanation of the various consents is below.

Local trips/educational visits: This gives standing permission for all educational visits and the school needs your consent to take children on trips (sometimes just to the post box at the end of the street, sometimes a little further afield). We are not required to send out permission slips for trips, so this method acts as ongoing consent.

School and class photos: These are the traditional school photos taken by Tulip Photography and available to buy by parents for themselves and relatives.

School website: Your child’s face may appear in update and progress photos of events and learning on the school website. If this consent is not granted, then the school will use obscure the image of your child’s face in any photos used.

School Facebook page: The Facebook page is private and for parents/carers and school staff only, so content on here is not publicly available. If this consent is not granted, then the school will use something to obscure the image of your child’s face.

School displays: Some of the in-school displays have pictures of children and the learning and projects they have been up to. These will only be seen by people within the school.

School publications: This includes advertising banners for school places etc.

Media (eg TV, radio, newspaper): The use of images including your child in the media. This is unlikely to be needed for any reason, but even if granted, the school would contact families before any events such as this

Learning journeys and school books: Showcasing some of the children’s work within classrooms – only seen by staff, the children and parents.

Please find attached our Home-School agreement. This is issued at the start of every year and parent / carers are asked to ensure they are familiar with it. Unless otherwise notified, it is assumed that parent / carers agree to adhere to it.

The school gates close at 8.50am and all Reception - Year 2 children are expected to be in school by this time. If you arrive after this time, please bring your child to the school office to sign them in. Similarly, if you arrive to collect your child after the school gates have closed, you will need to come to the office to collect them and sign them out.

Large keyrings, jewellery (other than stud earrings), large hair accessories and toys are not permitted in school; please remove any oversized keyrings from bags and ensure your child keeps toys, and decorative jewellery and headwear at home to avoid upset caused by loss and breakages. If your child benefits from a transitional object to support separation, please talk to their class teacher to agree what this will be.
