St Anne's Infants' School

Reach for the Stars

Forest School

We are delighted to be able to offer all children a place at Forest School during their time in Reception. The course runs for 5 sessions throughout the year on Wednesday mornings.

Forest School is an internationally recognised outdoor education programme which supports children with developing confidence, self-reliance and independence in all that they do.  It is a great opportunity for them to have a go and get involved in learning about the outdoors and themselves in a structured and secure environment. The children have time to explore and enjoy the woodland and take part in activities such as:

Climbing; mud painting; mini beast hunting; whittling; shelter building; using folding saws and tools to cut wood; cooking on an open fire; exploring and learning about woodland animals and their habitats; making bird feeders; colour hunting; mini raft building; and many more activities.

Mrs Nicholson leads the sessions with the support of another member of staff and we invite parents and carers to accompany the children each week so the children can gain the most from the experience.  We need a minimum of 1 parent/carer volunteer each week.

There is a maximum of 15 children at each session. They wear scruffy/old clothes that can get dirty with suitable footwear (wellies or old trainers) to school on that day and bring their school uniform and shoes in a bag to change into after their forest school session.

In order to maintain and purchase resources and equipment as well as provide drink and snacks for the children during the sessions we ask for a voluntary contribution of £1 a week (or alternatively £5 for the 5 sessions).
