Welcome back Year 2. We hope you had a lovely holiday. There is lots going on in term 4!
As writers, we will be focusing on a new genre and using lots of new grammar, including alliteration and onomatopoeia to write a fictional recipe for a magical potion, inspired by Roald Dahl's 'George's Marvellous Medicine'. For the second part of the term we will be writing fictional comic about a day in the life of a passenger travelling on the SS Great Britain. This will include a range of different grammatical features and some factual knowledge from our Enquiry. Our inspiration will come from the brilliant history book 'A Day in the Life of a Caveman, a Queen and Everything in Between' by Mike Barfield and Jess Bradley.
In reading, we will continue to read more challenging texts as a class. Through our programme, Routes to Reading, we will read with expression, discuss and respond to a wide variety of texts from different genres to help us build our understanding. This will include poetry, stories and fact-files.
As mathematicians, Year 2 will focus on wider maths, learning about shape and fractions. We will continue to revisit counting in 2's, 5's and 10's as well as addition and subtraction, so any extra practice at home would be great!
Our Enquiry this term is called 'How to live a healthy life' and explores how to keep our minds and bodies healthy. We will finish the enquiry by making our very own healthy pizzas! We will also be starting the enquiry 'What did Brunel do for Great Britain?' which focuses on learners becoming Historians and Engineers. The children will learn about what it means to be an Engineer, in particular looking at the work of Brunel and how significant engineers of the past continue to influence our lives .
We will also enjoy being athletes in our PE lessons and Musicians in our music lessons.
Keep an eye on the website for photo updates of our learning!
