Welcome back Year 2. We hope you had a lovely holiday and are looking forward to the term ahead.

As writers, we will be focusing on a new genre, and writing an explanation text about how plants grow, describing their journey from seed to established plant. This will include a range of different grammatical features and some factual knowledge from our Enquiry. Our inspiration will come from the beautifully illustrated book 'It Starts With a Seed' by Laura Knowles. 

In reading, we will continue to read more challenging texts as a class. Through our programme, Routes to Reading, we will read with expression, discuss and respond to a wide variety of texts from different genres to help us build our understanding. This will include poetry, stories and fact-files.

As mathematicians, Year 2 will focus on wider maths, learning about time and measurement. We will continue to revisit counting in 2's, 5's and 10's, fractions and addition and subtraction, so any extra practice at home would be great!

Our Enquiry this term is called 'How do plants grow near me?' and focuses on learners becoming Scientists, Artists and Geographers. The children will recap key learning around the continents and their associated climates, and start to make links with types of weather and how climate affects plant growth. As Scientists and Artists we will be looking at the growing process and needs of plants, documenting a plant's changes through drawing. We are hoping to go on a woodland walk to identify different plants that grow nearby!

We will also enjoy being athletes in our PE lessons and Musicians in our music lessons.

School Lunches: Please book your child's lunch in advance through MCAS.

Water bottles: Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school with them each day

Reading Books: Please ensure your child's reading book comes with them to school each day

Homework: Your child may be sent small tasks for homework, and we would be really grateful if you could support them in their learning

P.E: 

Saturn: Tuesday and Friday

Jupiter: Tuesday and Friday

Please send your child to school in their P.E kit on their P.E days. This should include a plain white t-shirt, black shorts, leggings or joggers and appropriate black P.E shoes
