In Year 1, we aim to build on the children's in-depth knowledge of numbers to ten from their Reception learning through a continuation of play and use of everyday routines, leading to a more structured lesson approach as children move through key stage one.

Maths lessons are taught daily, with daily fluency lessons providing further opportunities to secure number facts and calculation strategies. Our enquiry-led curriculum provides opportunities for children to apply their mathematical skills in practical and meaningful ways in other subject areas.

As a Year 1 mathematician, children focus on deepening and securing their understanding of the following concepts:
