We hope you had a lovely Easter break and enjoyed all the lovely Spring sunshine.
Enquiry
This term Year 1 will be exploring and answering the Enquiry question 'How do we move around?'. We will be thinking about how we move our bodies as well as about how different objects move. As engineers we will be learning how to make different kinds of moving pictures that use folds, levers, sliders and pivots. For our enquiry challenge we will make our own illustrated pop up book pages. In Computing we will also be learning about how to programme the Beebots to make them move.
Authors
In English we will be reading The River and writing our own stories about the different journeys we could make on a river. We will also be writing instructions for how to make pop up and moving pictures, inspired by the story book How To Wash a Woolly Mammoth.
Mathematicians
In Maths we will be focusing on numbers to 20, securing our understanding of the teen numbers and their quantities e.g. that 14 is one ten and four ones. We will be using number lines and diennes to help us. We will be adding, taking away, doubling and halving within 20. We will be exploring different ways of measuring length too, including using cubes and rulers to measure an object's length in centimeters.
Athletes
Neptune class will do PE on Mondays and Thursdays this term.
Venus class will do PE on Thursdays and Fridays. (Please note that the children from Venus class coming to Forest School this term only do their Thursday PE session).
On Thursdays, Year 1's PE lessons will be football taught by a football coach. We had a practice session before the Easter break and had a great time so can't wait to do more!
