How do we celebrate?

As part of our enquiry, 'How do we celebrate?', the children have learnt about lots of different religious and non-religious celebrations. We talked about some celebrations which we knew about already, such as birthdays and bonfire night, and we also learnt about festivals celebrated by other people around the world like the Jewish festival Sukkot.

The children built Sukkahs for Sukkot, drew pictures of how they celebrate different occasions at home and even dressed up to act out weddings!

At the end of the enquiry the children sorted lots of different celebration items into different groups and shared their knowledge about the similarities and differences between different celebrations.

Mathematicians

This term in Mars class, we have been comparing groups of objects by using the words more and fewer/less. Using their new skills, the children created a zoo using animal toys and solved problems such as which animals should have which food based on whether there was fewer or more animals than the food available. Later in the term, we explored who to find the parts of a number. The children found the different ways to partition the number five using eggmen, fingers and numicon.

This term we have been artists by exploring chalk. The children first had chance to explore the media and then we learnt about different ways that we can use the chalk to have different effects. The children made some beautiful pictures!
