Term 2

Take a look below at the exciting learning that will be happening in Year 2 this term!

This term the children will be looking at number, addition and subtraction. They will be adding and subtracting using two 2-digit numbers by using resources such as dienes and number lines to support them.

The children will be working on the following skills in their writing this term:

  • Demarcate sentences accurately using full stops and capital letters mostly accurately
  • Use spacing between words that reflect the size of the letters
  • Form correctly sized and orientated lower-case letters, capital letters and digits
  • Use coordinating conjunctions to form compound sentences (so, but, and)
  • Use noun phrases to describe and specify people, places and things e.g. ugly dragon/old castle/beautiful butterfly
  • Use subordinating conjunctions to add extra information (when, if, that, because)
  • Write about more than one idea, group related information and write coherently

Our enquiry this term is called "What can play equipment be made of?" and focuses on the Engineer state of being. The children will select from and use a range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks (such as cutting, shaping, joining and finishing). They will select from and use a wide range of materials and components according to their characteristics.

The children will be exploring the unit "Celebrating Differences" this term in PSHE. They will identify ways in which we are different from one another and think about why we value these differences.

In RE, the children will be studying the units "What does it mean to belong to a faith community?" and "how and why do we celebrate special and sacred times?"

This term, we will be learning the skills of co-ordination and balance. We will also be focusing on the key skills of working with others, turn taking and sharing throughout our lessons.

As you can see, it's going to be another busy term for Year 2! Keep an eye on the website for regular updates and photos of the children's learning :)
