Term 5

Welcome to Term 5!

In Term 5 our enquiry question is 'What grows?' The children will explore the difference between living and non-living things and will discover more about the changes of plants and animals. We will be going on some trips to the forest and the farm to enhance our learning and every child will have the opportunity to grow their own flower! The children will learn how to do observational drawings of plants and will use their maths learning to measure how much their plat grows.

In literacy, we will be reading the books 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and 'Errol's Garden'. The children will be continue to practice writing sentences and will build their stamina for writing by writing 2 or more linked sentences. Children will also begin to understand the importance of full stops and where to place them.

In phonics, we will be teaching the children the following Read Write Inc sounds:

Set 3: ea, oi, a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e, u-e, aw, are, ur, er, ow, ai, oa, ew, ire, ear, ure.

The children will practise applying these sounds in their reading and writing.

As mathematicians, we will be learning about number patterns, including odds and evens and doubling and halving facts. The children will learn how to share out a number of objects. Later in the term, we will revisit subtraction and use our knowledge of number bonds to 10 to learn subtraction facts.

The children will learn standing and floor shapes and find away to combine their shapes with a movement. The children will perform their dances to music.

We will be continuing our work using the Jigsaw scheme. Children will take part in weekly circle times and role plays, learning how to be active listeners and offer their ideas.
