Term 5

How can we care for animals?

This term children in Reception will be scientists as we explore our new enquiry, 'How can we care for animals?' The children will learn about how we can look after a wide variety of animals including pets, farm animals and minibeasts. We will learn about simple life cycles of animals and plants and the children will have chance to grow a plant themselves.

We will be reading Six Dinner Sid, Mad About Minibeasts, Farmer Duck and the Hungry Caterpillar. The children will now be applying their phonics skills to read and write sentences which can be read by themselves and others. By the end of term the children will have been taught all Phase 2 and 3 sounds and will have chance to read and write using these sounds in phonics and with their home reading book.

In maths, the children will be learning how to double, halve and share using objects and will continue to develop their fluency with number bonds to 5 and 10 and some double facts (eg. 3+3=6).
