Welcome to Term 6 - we can't believe the children are nearly ready to move to Year 1! The children are learning so much and wowing us everyday with what they can do. 

Enquiry

In Term 6 our enquiry question is 'How have I changed?' We will be focussing on the key words 'past' and 'present' to show that things change over time. We will be starting our enquiry by comparing photos of us as babies with photos of us now. We will make timelines of what has happened in our lives, as well as what came before we were born. We will finish by thinking about what could happen in the future and what we want to be when we grow up. 

Literacy

In literacy, we will be reading the books ‘Zog’, 'Harry and His Bucketful of Dinosaurs' and 'The Dinosaur that Pooped the Past'. The children will be continuing to write sentences by learning how to plan their sentence and practise saying it before writing it down. Children will continue to consolidate their knowledge of how to write a sentence which can be read by others and those who are ready will have an opportunity to extend their writing with narrative language such as ‘once upon a time’, ‘first’, ‘next’ and ‘finally’.

In phonics the children will be reviewing the digraphs and trigraphs which have been taught since Term 3 and will practise applying their skills by reading and writing sentences which use these sounds.

Maths

As mathematicians, we will be learning about space, shape and measure. The children will explore 2D and 3D shapes and learn the language used to name and describe the properties of these shapes. They will also explore distance, height, length and weight and how these can be measured in different ways.
