Term 3

Welcome back! We are so excited for all the learning that will take place this term.

In Term 3 our enquiry question is 'What makes a good vehicle?' We will be starting our enquiry with a local area walk to look at different types of vehicles and will then be learning about what different vehicles need to move. The children will be scientists as we explore different materials and will then be engineers as we try making our own miniature vehicles.

In literacy, we will be reading the books 'Duck in the Truck', 'Naughty Bus' and 'Mr Gumpy's Outing'.

The children will be beginning to write sentences by learning how to plan their sentence and practise saying it before writing it down.

In phonics, we will be teaching the children Read Write Inc Set 2 sounds: ay, ee, igh, ow, oo/oo, or, ar, ou and oy. The children will practise applying these sounds in their reading and writing.

As mathematicians, we will be learning about the numbers 6-10 and exploring the composition of these numbers. The children will find the parts of a whole number (e.g. "When 4 is the whole, 3 is a part and 1 is a part.") will become familiar with what numbers add together to make the numbers up to 10.  The children will be introduced to the language of adding and subtracting and will begin to record using mathematical symbols.

This term the children will be continuing their work on coordination, teamwork and ways to move. We will also be starting Gymnastics where the children will learn different floor shapes, ways to balance and linking routines.

We will be continuing our work using the Jigsaw scheme. Children will take part in weekly circle times and role plays, learning how to be active listeners and offer their ideas.
