Welcome back! We are so excited for all the learning that will take place this term.

Enquiry

In Term 3 our enquiry question is 'What is darkness?'  The children will be scientists as we learn about light and dark and explore the different animals which come out at nighttime and will explore the use of technology through torches and projectors. As part of Personal, Social and Emotional Development, the children will also think about how sleep habits contribute to good health and consider their own bedtime routine.

Literacy

In literacy, we will be reading the books 'The Dark', 'Afraid of the Dark' and 'How to Catch a Star.'

The children will be beginning to write sentences by learning how to plan their sentence and practise saying it before writing it down.

In phonics, we will be teaching the children the sounds: ai, ee, igh, oa, oo/oo. The children will practise applying these sounds in their reading and writing.

Maths

As mathematicians, we will be learning about the numbers 6-10 and exploring the composition of these numbers. The children will find the parts of a whole number (e.g. "When 4 is the whole, 3 is a part and 1 is a part.") will become familiar with what numbers add together to make the numbers up to 10.  The children will be introduced to the language of adding and subtracting and will begin to record using mathematical symbols.
