St Anne's Infants' School

Reach for the Stars

Term 6

We've reached the final term of our time together at St. Anne's Infants' School.  Can you believe it?

This term, a lot of our focus will be on celebrating their time in Key Stage One and preparing them for their transition to Year 3.  We look forward to sharing with you our 'Leavers' Assembly' towards the end of the term, and can't wait for our Cattle Country and pizza treat as our end of year celebration!  More information to follow soon :)

Take a look below at the exciting learning that will be happening in Year 2 in Term 6!

This term the children will be revisiting and building upon their skill in subtracting two digit numbers, including when needing to exchange ten. We will also be applying our multiplication and division skills in problem solving and reasoning tasks, to really get us thinking and talking in maths! l.

How you can help at home:

  • Practise counting in twos, fives and tens
  • Rehearse the 2, 5 and 10 times tables
  • Making some simple mental calculations
  • Always remind your children how to write numbers correctly

The children will be focusing on the following skills in their writing this term:

  • Use adverbs to describe an action (e.g. walk quickly)
  • Exploring and using the features of writing needed to write a narrative (story)- beginning/ middle/ end
  • Writing character and settings descriptions

We will also continue to look for:

  • Forming correctly sized and orientated lower-case letters, capital letters and digits- ALWAYS starting at the top
  • Use noun phrases
  • Use the consistent tense throughout a piece of writing

How you can help at home:

  • Continue to practise spelling Year 1 and Year 2 common exception words (Galaxy Words)
  • Continue to read regularly with your children

Our enquiry this term is called "How can we live a healthy lifestyle?" and focuses on the Scientist and Engineer as our states of being, with Athlete as a supporting state of being. The children will explore food groups and why it's important to eat a balanced diet, where food comes from, and how sleep, water and keeping clean also help us to stay healthy.  The children will work towards planning, preparing and making a healthy snack to keep them topped up with energy for our upcoming Sports Day!

The children will be exploring the unit "Changing Me" this term in PSHE. They will identify some of the things that change as they get older. They will learn how to prepare themselves for their next stage in their learning journey.

This term we will continue to focus on our ‘Fitness Cog’ in PE, where we’ll begin to focus on challenging our speed and agility.

As you can see, it's going to be yet another busy term for Year 2! Keep an eye on the website for regular updates and photos of the children's learning :)
