Welcome back Year 2. We hope you had a lovely sunny holiday and are looking forward to your final term at St Anne's.
As writers, we will be focusing on letter writing. Our inspiration will come from the popular and witty book 'The Day the Crayons Quit' by Drew Daywalt. We will look at the different letters written by each of the crayons in order to explore a range of grammatical features. We will then use our letter writing skills to write letters to the Year 3 children at Wicklea, asking lots of questions to help with the upcoming transition.
In reading, we will continue to read more challenging texts as a class. Through our programme, Routes to Reading, we will read with expression, discuss and respond to a wide variety of texts from different genres to help us build our understanding. This will include poetry, stories and fact-files.
As mathematicians, Year 2 will continue to focus on wider maths, learning about measuring length and weight. We will continue to revisit counting in 2's, 5's and 10's, fractions and addition and subtraction, so any extra practice at home would be great!
Our Enquiry this term is called 'How are schools the same?' and focuses on learners becoming Artists and Geographers. The children will recap key learning around the continents and their associated climates, and start to understand the similarities and differences in human and physical geography in different continents and countries. We will be making links with a school in Australia to find out what school and life are like on the other side of the world.
In the final weeks of term Year 2 will be celebrating their time at St Anne's with a leavers' performance, picnic and trip to Puxton Park. We will spend much of this term practising our singing and performing to make our final show a blast!
We will also enjoy being athletes in our PE lessons and Musicians in our music lessons.
Keep an eye on the website for photo updates of our learning!
